    MEd

    Valley Art Therapy, Birtle, MB

Dana has her Masters of Education (Counselling), is a Canadian Certified Counsellor, a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, is a Registered Canadian Art Therapist, and EMDR Trained.

Dana has 16 years of experience as a counsellor. She specializes in supporting clients in their trauma work. Her approach goes beyond talk alone, integrating somatic experiences, mindfulness and other modalities with more traditional types of therapy like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).  This can be really beneficial for those who are seeking to process difficult life events or whose daily functioning is impacted by past trauma.

In your work with Dana, you can expect to move at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you. There's no pressure to put words to complicated or traumatic experiences. Our work is grounded in the somatic experience of the body and our nervous system survival responses, drawing on Polyvagal Theory. This approach allows us to address trauma holistically, recognizing the profound connection between mind and body. Together you will work on expanding your window of tolerance to better manage the challenges of day-to-day life. Dana's background includes training in various therapeutic modalities, which allows her to tailor sessions to the client's unique needs, combining talk therapy techniques with body-based and creative approaches as appropriate.

If you're ready to begin your healing journey in a supportive, trauma-informed environment, Dana is here to guide you. Together, you can work towards processing your experiences and improving your day-to-day functioning, all while moving at a pace that feels right for you.

Dana grew up on a mixed farm in Southwestern Manitoba. Her teaching career brought her to Birtle, MB in 1996, and shortly after she married a farmer, moving into a century old family mixed farming operation nestled in the Assiniboine Valley. Through the BSE years, the years of floods, and all the weather related challenges, we have raised two kids while enjoying all that farm life has to offer. After another flood in 2014, we shifted our operation out of grain, and focused on cattle ranching. We now operate about 300 head of Black Angus cattle, and are bringing in the next (and fifth) generation as our son joins his dad in the cattle business.

To schedule an appointment, please phone 204-842-3869 or email care@valleyarttherapy.com and mention you are a SaskAgMatters client. Dana offers appointments In-Person (743 Main Street, Birtle, MB), or virtually.
